this day a year ago....

another day on holiday another wee cycle locally for 2 or 3 hours, not clear skys today, was frosty this morning and never went above 4 degrees celcius today...nevermind going cycling when on holiday is great..getting paid to go cycle!
i trailed to near north berwick today via the john muir way as usual but cut off and via a few grassy field boundrys...
passed this cool ganghut in woods!...

i rode to castleton farm near tantallon castle...

im going to visit the castle as well as 2 others on easter sunday this spring when historic scotland have an open day as i havent been there for a few years...
1/4 mile on tarmac and over a wall and looking out over the sea towards the bass rock from above canty bay...

only way down is down the steep grassy banks...ridable half way then just too steep, esp with cable discs and high seatpost...good to get on the beach...been nearly 24 hours!...

when i was around 8 or 9 years old my dad brought me here in our landrover when he was the county ranger to see the barge that had broken free in a storm and had washed ashore here,if it had washed up west of here it would have been wrecked on rocks...
now i havent been down here cycling since back in febuary last year when i made one of my first youtube films with my first tachyon 50mm lense camera, this is freaky as typing this up i went to youtube to embed the film and have just realised that i filmed and uploaded the film a year ago to this day!...here it is...kinda old school now... lol

did you notice im wearing exactly the same gear as today? except gloves...
back to today and there wasnt much washed up along the bay,2 hours after high tide and the sea was quite far down the shore...canty bay is the only sand beach on our coast in the county on a slope..others are pebble shorelines...

at hightide you have to hike-a-bike up over the top of the cliffs but now it was ok to clamber down to the shoreline over the rocks...

old tree stump smoothed off by the sea...

the old sheep fence runs from the cliffs down into the sea...

time for a bit of rock trialing...past some nice rock features...

a cool wee cave...

nice view from inside...

this small tidal island is locally called daisy island...

first pugsley to ride out onto it for sure...

from the island you see around horseshoe point to north berwick...

along the coast is now over ridable rock with a few headlands to ride up and over...

look at all that free firewood...

over the rocks of leckmoram ness...

lovely old round rock...

and reaching rocks called the leithes...popular for sea anglers this smooth rock point is a trially playground for pugsley...

from here its along the east beach to the harbour and seabird centre..

me im heading home before dark through the glen woods and a blast home on the road with that cold now northerly tailwind,a nice revisit to a beach i will reride more often...

  1. Great post.

Tantallons a cracker of a castle. Another pastime of mine too. I'm a member of Historic Scotland but you've reminded me that I don't make use of the access as I should.

    cheers...Al.
